The Tiberio Gorges, recognized as UNESCO Global Geopark site, are about 400 meters long and date back to the Upper Triassic. The Gorges are located along the Pollina River, among the Madonie Park territories of San Mauro Castelverde, Castelbuono and Pollina , a few kilometers far from Cefalù. Exploring the Gorges you can admire: Gastropod fossils, dating back about 120 million years ago; “U miricu” (the most narrow area of the gorges that is more than 10 meters deep); nests full of eggs belonging to local birds; the big stone, placed in the middle of the path, once used as a secret passage by brigands (Nineteenth-century outlaws) who lived in the caves and hiding places of this area; light effects and of course a pristine and wild vegetation. It is about a two-hour day trip includes crossing the Geopark site by rubber boat and walk along the Pollina river following two directions. Depending on the period, you will go downstream to the small gorges or upstream to the ponds where you will be able to have a bath. Along the path, it is possible to admire the typically fluvial flora and fauna. Bee-eaters, yellow dancers, buzzards, a couple of golden eagles, owls, crabs, eels, frogs, dragonflies, are some of the animals that live in the area of the Tiberio Gorges. Before and after the day trip you can take advantage of the services offered by “La Rocca area”: bathrooms, changing rooms, bars, showers, tables and barbecues

Excursions are organized in compliance with national and regional regulations to combat COVID-19.
The Madonie Outdoor association will guarantee:
-Excursion programming with 60-minute scan (h 9:00 – 16:00)
– Access to small groups to avoid gatherings and ensure social distancing
– Access to boats for families
-Sanitization of the equipment
Visitor must comply with the following rules:
- Reservations required for excursions.
-Reservation in the absence of symptoms attributable to covid-19
- Go to the La Rocca rest area 15 minutes before the appointment for temperature control and initial briefing
- Be equipped with a CE marked surgical mask and disposable latex gloves.
